The first new chain saw I bought in 2009 was gas powered because I thought it would be more powerful and convenient without the cord. It was just for light duty around the outside when I needed it now and then but I always seemed to have a hard time starting it even though I always followed the manuals instructions to the tee regarding storage and upkeep but dispate that I still always had a hard time starting it. I have gas weed wackers & grass blowers and have no problem with them so it was not me doing something wrong. A few weeks ago I decided to cut down a small tree that had died so I uncovered the chain saw filled it with proper fuel and after a number of pulls it started and I cut down half the tree. The next week I went back to cut down the other half of the tree but the saw wouldn't start no matter what I did and that's when I decided enough was enough, I did some on line research and found this Poulan 16" electric saw and read all the good reviews and bought it here on Amazon. I received it in a very timely manner. After reading the entire manual I filled it with chain oil (It does not come with any oil) I pluged it in turned it on and it did a great job of cutting down the tree. It is very powerful and I am very satisfied with it and will never own another gas chain saw again, just have a good heavy duty electrical cord, read the manual and follow safety rules and save you shoulder.

I bought the Poulan PLN3516F electric chainsaw to cut dry pecan firewood in smaller pieces for my patio fire pit. It worked ok on the first half dozen cuts, then it locked up. I turned it over and could see that the shaft holding the chain sprocket inside the housing had pulled out. It looks like the metal shaft rotates in a metal bushing, but it is encased in the plastic body of the chain saw. The plastic encasing the bushing and shaft was deformed and the shaft was left sitting at an angle that would not allow the chain to move.

I followed the directions prior to using the chainsaw. I was keeping the chain at the correct tension. It was full of chain oil and is suppossed to be self lubricating. The cut did not put the chain in a bind in any way. My conclusion is that the plastic holding the shaft and bushing in place was defective or not strong enough to handle the tension.

It may have been an isolated case, but I won't buy another Poulan chainsaw, and I am going back to gasoline powered saws. They seem to be better built.

I returned it to Lowes and they gave me a full return.

I am a woman so I can't start the gas-powered chain saws. I suspect a lot of men can't either. For that reason, I am stuck with the electric kind. My new electric Poulan saw certainly does the trick. I was able to cut up a big branch that fell out of a dead tree during a rain storm. The saw is not too heavy for me and cut through the limb quickly.
